Striker hoping to add to the goal scored at Crawley

Striker Ben Williamson is obviously taking nothing for granted, but the former Glenn Hoddle Academy scholar is setting his sights high this season and feels Vale have the potential to finish the season well.

He said: “We have got off to quite a good start and find ourselves in ninth place at this point of the season and we have done great to get there.

“We have beaten a few teams and we are on the back of two wins now and hopefully we can go down there on Saturday and get another win and maybe push into a play-off position.

“You want to get to the highest place you can in the league and keep your expectations high, so hopefully we can do that, but we have got to take every game as it comes.

“At the beginning of the season we were thinking we would do well if we could manage to stay in this league, but we are happy where we are now and hopefully we can push on and see where we end up.”

After performing well in the team for a few games, there was one thing missing from Ben’s game and that was goals – however, he got on the score sheet at Crawley recently and admits he was relieved to do so.

He said: “It is a massive weight of my shoulders, every week was going by and I thought it was never going to come, so it was nice to eventually take that first goal and hopefully I can relax now and push on from there.

“There is a lot less pressure on me now and hopefully I can now build on that and get my second goal, then my third and see how many I can get by the end of the season.

“You have got to be playing games, so hopefully I can keep my place in the team and hopefully score goals.

“I started late in football so obviously I am still inexperienced even though I am 24 now, but if I start playing games and scoring goals and get more confident, I can move on and see where I can go.”
