Micky's FA Cup thoughts

But the boss more concerned about Swindon at the moment

Micky Adams has the little matter of a League One game against Swindon Town to think of before he plans anything for our FA Cup tie against Shortwood United a week on Monday, but he has admitted it will not be an easy game.

Whilst he was serious about the game itself, the Vale boss joked: “It will be a difficult game, live on TV as well, which is a great incentive for all the boys to get their hair cut and look a bit smart.

“The facilities will be what they are and we have got to get on with it. I am not too worried about the facilities, how we get there and what happens, it is how we perform on the day.

“Having seen them play live myself on Tuesday night, it will be a cracking game. Because all credit to them against Aldershot, they looked fit, organised and the had great spirit.

“It’s game we can’t take lightly, it’s a game we have to prepare properly for, which we will do, but it’s a game ultimately we can win.

“We don’t want to kid ourselves that we are going there to do anything other than to get a win and to get through to the next round.

“BT Sport are there for a reason, they think there is a giant-killing on the cards, and it can happen, we’ve seen it many times before.

“If you look through Vale’s history, it is full of disasters at non-league places, but if we get ourselves physically and mentally right for the game, then it shouldn’t be a problem for us.

“That’s not being disrespectful to Shortwood, because as I have said before, they were a credit to themselves the other night – they were terrific.”

Vale will be limited to the number of supporters they will be allowed to take with them of course, but the manager knows how ever many will be at the game, they will be spurring the team on.

He said: “In many respects it would be a similar type of atmosphere to a pre-season friendly but our supporters will get behind us, it doesn’t matter how many will be there, I am sure they will be heard.

“Luckily for us, we have been down that part of the world before so it’s not going to surprise us too much, other than how we get there and the facilities.

“As far as our fans are concerned, we want to send them home happy and we can only do that by being in the draw for the next round.”
