Defender says the fans can play their part in helping the team
Defender Adam Yates says the lads are not too disappointed with their return over the Christmas and New year period, though obviously they were not too happy with the result and performance against Fleetwood Town on Tuesday.
He said: “If people had offered us two wins out of three from the Rotherham, Dagenham and Fleetwood games we would have taken them.
“We won the first two and wanted to win against Fleetwood, but we didn’t but we got six points fro the other two games so we have got to move on.
“We have another big game again on Saturday against Plymouth, who have just lost their manager. All of their lads will want to make an impression to whoever may be sitting in the stands waiting to take over the side.
“They will be coming here to upset us, but we have got to go out and dominate the game.
“They have got some dangerous players. They have some experience in the side and a couple of young lads with good pace, a couple of wide men with good pace and so it is going to be a test for us.
“Hopefully they will come here and have a go at us, which opens the game up and in turn gets our wingers into the game and gives us a little bit more space to attack.
“On the other hand, if they sit there and try and frustrate us we are going to have to find a way around that, and that is something we have been working on.”
Yates acknowledges the part the Vale supporters can play, not just against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon, but for the rest of the season.
He said: “The fans have been fantastic away from home and the fans have got behind us when we have needed them at home too.
“Saturday is no different, we need the fans on our side. They have a right to vent their frustration, but ultimately they can become our twelfth man.
“When we have got them backing us in numbers and singing, there is no better feeling for the players.”
