Ben Whitfield has expressed his delight following Port Vale’s 4-0 win over League Two leaders, Luton Town.
The Bournemouth-loanee heavily impressed on Saturday in what saw Vale’s 2017 come to a perfect end. Whitfield played a part in three of the four goals in the exhilarating victory where he managed to bag himself a goal too.
Speaking after the game, the 21-year old voiced his pleasure in the game and explained his part in the goals.
He said: “Everyone played their part today.
“You can’t beat top of the league without all eleven players playing their part, we did that today.
“On the second goal, I saw him early [Pope] and thought to pick him out. I don’t find him enough in some games and fortunately today I have and we got an important victory.”
Tom Pope is now onto 13 league goals this campaign as Ben displays his joy in playing with the target man.
“He’s brilliant to play with,” said Whitfield.
“They struggled with him at the back as Tom won every header. I’m always there to run around him too.
“We’re forming a good partnership and he’s very good to play with.”
Vale now travel to second place Notts County on Monday with the squad in high spirits of getting a result.
“Notts County played Luton the other week and drew 0-0”, he added.
“We’ve just beat Luton so there is no reason we can’t go there and get a result on New Year’s Day.”
