Wales Update from Rob Page

Wales Update from Rob Page

Vale’s First Team coach Robert Page, has kept his link with the Wales under-21 squad going this summer with a number of matches being played over Europe.

We caught up with Rob for a quick chat and to get an update from our international man.

“My link with the Wales under-21 team started about 2 years ago when I got a call off Brian Flynn who asked if I could come and do a bit of coaching as one of their coaches couldn’t turn up for an Away match. When Gary Williams was then appointed manager of the wales youth teams, he asked me if I wanted to work for the under-21s with him as his coach and I couldn’t refuse as obviously working with an international team day in day out is brilliant especially as a side line to working with the brilliant lads at Vale.

“Straight at the end of this season I joined up with the lads, we played England at Pride Park in March which we followed up with a game against England at Liberty Stadium we lost both matches, 0-1 and 1-3 with Nathan Redmond scoring all four goals for England.

“But we had a good week together at Swansea from our point of view, we couldn’t qualify for the world championships but it’s still good to pit yourself against good teams to get that experience and England are certainly the best of their age group and it was their last game before they went to the tournament. Although it was a loss there are still signs of improvement with our under-21s which is great for the future.

“There’s some great players coming through the Wales set-up at the moment and being a Welshmen I can’t help but be pleased, it’s brilliant to see”
