After the devastating news coming from the training ground incident on Tuesday, Neil Aspin has given an update on how Adam Yates is doing and the extent of his injuries.
The defender has fractured his nose, cheekbones and eye sockets as well as a broken jaw and wrist following an accidental collision in the reserve game against Morecambe.
Speaking about his injury, the gaffer said he has never seen anything like it in all of his footballing career.
He said: “We’re all disappointed for himself and his family.
“You don’t expect to go on a football pitch and get the extent of injuries he suffered on Tuesday. To fracture your cheekbone, an eye socket, your nose and your wrist in the same incident – I’ve never heard of it in all of my career.
“It’s very unfortunate, everyone at the club is disappointed for Adam.”
Aspin, believes that the lower leagues can be harsh for any footballer and are not like the big boys of the Premier League. With regards to Yatesy, the gaffer wishes him all the best and hopes he recovers soon.
“Everybody is obsessed with the Premier League, with all the top-end business,” he said.
“There’s a lot of people at the other end fighting to make a living and provide for their families – nobody sees that side of the coin.
“A lot of players get released and it can be very difficult. For somebody like Adam, he was in a position where he’s trying to get a new contract and that’s where we have to feel for him. In football, there’s a lot of players who don’t earn a fortune, who are good professionals like Adam.
“It’s come at a bad time for him and we all feel for him.”
It is unknown of how long the 34-year old will be out of action for as we currently wait for further tests on Adam’s progress.
Aspin said: “You can’t put a timescale on how long he will be out for because he has so many injuries.
“They can’t do any operations until the swelling has gone down, it’ll be a long job.
Everybody at Port Vale Football Club would like to wish Adam all the best, and wish him a speedy recovery.
