Neil Aspin has high hopes of his side defeating Yeovil Town on Saturday, allowing The Valiants to reach the third round of the FA Cup.
Trophy action will return to Vale Park this weekend with Vale hoping to secure their spot in the next round, as fellow League Two Yeovil travel to Burslem.
Speaking to the media regarding this weekend’s game, the gaffer hopes his side can defeat a tough Yeovil side and be drawn against one of the bigger teams.
He said: “As a player or a manager, everybody wants to try and get a big club to test yourself.
“Once you get into that third-round draw, anyone who’s in the league that we are in know that you won’t win the cup. It’s better to try and get a big team who will generate some money.
“If we put in a good performance then we have a good chance of progressing.”
The gaffer also revealed some good news regarding Ben Whitfield who has returned to first-team training with Vale. After being out for several weeks, the winger is looking to continue to progress well and eventually be in contention for a Saturday.
“Ben has trained for the first time this week,” said Aspin.
“The pitches have been frozen so we have had to play on 3G, which isn’t ideal for him but we will see if we get a reaction from that.
“I would like to think that in the next few games, he will be taking part.
