PREVIEW: Port Vale v Yeovil Town

As Port Vale prepare to face the Glovers for the fourth and final time this season, we bring you all the details you need to know leading up to the fixture.

Competition: Sky Bet League Two
Fixture: Port Vale vs Yeovil Town
Venue: Vale Park
Date: Saturday 13th January
Kick-off: 3:00pm

Preview

Port Vale will look to bounce back from last week’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at Forest Green Rovers with a victory over Yeovil Town in League Two.

Vale have seen a dramatic rise in form in their home fixtures which has seen them defeat Luton Town and Coventry City within a matter of days. This allowed manager, Neil Aspin, to be nominated for the division’s Manager of the Month award.

The visitors will travel to Burslem off the back of two cup victories against Bradford City and Forest Green. The win over Bradford allowed the Glovers to reach the third round of the FA Cup, which now sets up a tie with Manchester United at Huish Park.

Town sit in 21st position in the league, just five points from the relegation zone and four points behind the Valiants in 18th.

The Opposition

This will be the fourth time the two sides have met eachother this season where they have met once in the league before now and twice in the FA Cup.

Out of the four fixtures, Vale are yet to win a game where they have drawn two and lost one. The loss came in the FA Cup where Vale were reduced to nine men and just missed out on causing an upset as Yeovil ran out 3-2 winners after 120 minutes.

Similarly to Vale, Darren Way’s side have also been busy in the transfer market where they have brought in Jared Bird from Barnsley and Marcus Barnes from Southampton.

There has also been new additions in Lewis Wing and Corey Whelan.

Talk

Neil Aspin: “It’s certainly made our task more difficult and we will have to work hard to get anything out of the game.”

Connor Smith (Yeovil Town midfielder): “You go to these places and you play these teams and you’re not expected to get anything, so anything you do get is a bonus.”

Team News

A debut could be given to Donovan Wilson who joined Vale earlier in the week from Wolves.

A home debut could also be given to Dior Angus after he made his Football League debut in the defeat to Forest Green last week.

Tom Anderson remains doubtful after a broken nose.

Saturday could see the return of Omar Sowunmi and Connor Smith after they served their suspensions.

Marcus Barnes could be given a start as he makes his league debut for Yeovil following a good performance against Bradford City.
