Pope to come good again

Fellow striker confident top scorer will be amongst the goals again soon

Boss Micky Adams has hinted he will consider making changes for the visit of Swindon Town on Saturday and Ben Williamson says he would welcome a start if selected.

The striker has been used to the role of a substitute more often than not and he admits it isn’t easy coming off the bench expected to change the game.

He said: “It’s a bit harder coming off the bench because you don’t get as long, you just get twenty minutes and in that twenty minutes you have got to do as much as you can.

“If you start a game you know you have got time to wait for an opportunity, but when you come in for fifteen or twenty minutes you have got to try and get that chance and take it if it comes.

“Jordan had the same situation on Saturday, he came off the bench the same time as me and he managed to get the goal and got us back into the game, but we were just unlucky in the end.

“Obviously you want to start games as a striker, or in any position really, you just want to be playing games week in week out.

“It would be nice to get a start on Saturday but we will just have to wait and see what the gaffer does at the weekend and see if he does change things.”

On Saturday at Gillingham both Williamson and Jordan Hugill came off the bench together and the pair seemed to make a difference.

Williamson, however, was quick to lend support to Tom Pope, who he says will be amongst the goals again soon.

“I am sure Tom will be frustrated with himself, but he hasn’t had many chances in the last few games, but he has been playing up top on his own and he has been helping out other people.

“I am sure the goals will come again soon, he is capable of it and he has shown that last season and this season too – he is our top goal scorer and I am sure he will get another one soon.

“I have known Jordan for a few years now and I know how he plays and what he is about and we are a bit different.

“He is more of a target man and you can get the ball working around him and I try to do that. Popey is similar to Jordan as well, you can work off a big man, so they are both very similar.

“Jordan came on at Gillingham and scored his goal so he will be very confident at the moment.

”He is still quite young and he has been coming off the bench and he has taken his chances when they have been given to him. It is all good experience and I am sure he will develop into a great player.”
