Gaffer says it is sometimes easier to play away from home
Vale face Plymouth Argyle at Home Park this evening and Micky Adams had some good news regarding the availability of players ahead of the game.
On loan Jack Grimmer cannot play in the tie as he was signed after the first game against Plymouth, but the boss may have two defenders back.
The manager said: “We were back in on Sunday and had a recovery session and during that Chris Robertson did some light work, Carl Dickinson was back in work as well and he will be available for us n Tuesday night and if all goes well we will have a couple of bodies available for us.
“We had two young centre halves in on Saturday and I thought they performed admirably against a good strike force with a lot of experience.
“Jack is obviously not available for us against Plymouth, but Joe is and the more games he plays and the better the opposition is, can only benefit his education and self-belief.
“Joe is not a baby any more, he is twenty –one years old. We can all look back at our own careers and say at twenty-one years of age I had played probably a hundred league games.
“To do that he has got to tray and establish himself in the side – he is going to make mistakes, but some of my senior players have made mistakes this season, so we will persevere with Joe and see how he does.
“Experience does count. It will be good to get an experienced centre half alongside him if Chris Robertson is available and see how they both go.”
Everybody is aware of the financial pressure on the team as they attempt to book a passage into the fourth round and a home tie against Brighton and Hove Albion, but the manager certainly isn’t feeling any pressure.
He said: “Is the pressure on us? I don’t think so. I think it is easier to play away from home sometimes in a big competition, particularly when you are losing, you go out and play without fear.
“When you make mistakes away from home and there are only a few of your fans in the stadium it doesn’t affect you, the pressure is on them.
“When there is seven thousand in the ground and they make mistakes and the crowd moan, that can sometimes hinder them.
handful and we struggled to cope with him, but they have got a number of good players. “But we have seen enough of them. We realise their strengths – the boy Reid on the day was
“As I have said many times before, we won’t underestimate them, we will go there nice and positive and we will try our best to get into the next round of the FA Cup.”
