Vale’s youngsters bowed out of the Midland Youth Cup at the quarter final stage on penalties after a hard fought game.

Shrewsbury took the lead nine minutes into extra time when Kamian Anderson headed home from a corner. Vale hit back well though and Ricardo Swarby levelled matters five minutes later after cutting in from the right and hitting a low shot into the far corner of the net.

It was the Vale youngsters who dominated the second period of the extra half-hour. Beesley was just wide with a couple of efforts and Omar Haughton first had a shot well saved and then hit the base of the post with two minutes remaining.

Ferrie saved two penalties in the shoot out, but only Lewis Bergin scored for the Vale with Beesley, Macauley Davies and Swarby all missing, so Shrewsbury won 3-1.
