Dodds backs Page as Adams' op is a success

Louis Dodds believes it is business as usual for the Vale squad after manager Micky Adams successfully underwent hip surgery yesterday morning.

As the Vale boss recovers from his operation, first-team coach Robert Page will take over first-team responsibilities with the assistance of Mark Grew.

Dodds insists it is business as usual for the Vale players despite Micky Adams’ absence.

“It is exactly the same; the training is going to be the same.

“Pagey will do the same job the gaffer does because he demands that respect off the players and he has earned that so I don’t think there will be too much change.

“He is one of the those were if he needs a quite word he can have a little word with you and tell you little things and he can really help you.

“He can also do the nasty side were you need a bit of a shouting at and telling off, he can do that and everyone listens.”

Dodds believes Page’s hands-on approach along with his high standards will see Vale stay strong while the boss recovers.

“He is very hands-on and he wants to get involved with everything, He isn’t going to let standards slip, I am enjoying working with him,” he said.

Dodds was left watching Vale’s stunning second-half performance from the bench after being replaced at half-time.

The forward believes the change was the right one even if it was at his own expense.

“It shows that we can beat anyone and match anyone, we went to Orient the week before and didn’t get anything out of it, which was disappointing, and this time we get a 3-2 victory.

“Hopefully that can stand us in good stead for the weeks to come.

“If you watch the first-half you could see that there wasn’t really that space for me to play in the hole so we had to stretch them a little bit and Willio (Ben Williamson) came on and did that.

“It is a team game and we’re all delighted with it.”
