Our second pre-season friendly of the day ended in a stalemate
The Valiants had the first chance of the game on nine minutes with a shot from Caelan Ryan. The forward showed good strength to throw his defender off the ball and get a strike away from the left of the area but it was well saved by the Newcastle keeper.
Alex Iacovitti came close to scoring his first Vale goal in some style on 19 minutes. He took aim from around 30 yards with an effort curling into the far bottom corner but the man in goal for the hosts parried it wide for a corner.
With the last kick of the first half Newcastle had a crack from 25 yards but it was easy for Connor Ripley to claim.
Joao Pevide almost put the Valiants ahead on 54 minutes. Mitch Clark hooked the ball into the area from the right to the head of Pevide but his header just looped over the bar.
Clark was in the action again after 71 minutes when the defender cut inside on the right and drove towards the edge of the area but his effort was parried away from danger.
Tommy McDermott came close to getting a later winner as Ben Garrity laid the ball off to him in the area but he dragged his shot wide of the goal.
