Chris Lines: “Mistakes Cost Us”

Midfielder Speaks To Press After Loss

  • Vale lost 3-0 to Chesterfield on Saturday at the Proact
  • Lines came on as a second half substitute
  • The 29-year-old believes mistakes were behind the loss

Chris Lines believes individual errors were to blame as Port Vale suffered a 3-0 defeat to Chesterfield on Saturday.

Goals from Armand Gnanduillet, Eoin Doyle and Charlie Raglan meant Vale fell to a loss at the Proact Stadium against Paul Cook’s side.

Speaking to the press after the game, Lines said: “We’ve conceded sloppy goals.

They’re a good team and they’ve got good players and if you make mistakes they’re going to punish you and possibly the second and third goals are avoidable if we do our jobs properly.

“We started well, first ten to 15 minutes we had a couple of chances, then they got a hold on the game and in the end they saw the game out and punished our mistakes at the back.”

Lines also believes that the team did not perform anywhere near the standards that they had recently shown.

“It’s frustrating. We’ve got ourselves up to eighth before today, which considering where we were two or three months ago is unbelievable.

“We’ve got up to that position by playing well and today we fell short.”

However, he is adamant the team will be determined to bounce back during upcoming back-to-back home games.

“We’ve had a great month and we don’t need to let this disappoint anyone,” he added.

We’ve got another game at home next week and the home form has been fairly decent so we go into that against a team that are on a bit of a downfall in form so we’ve got to fancy us to get three points.

“We’ve got the local derby after at home so we’ve got two home games now and you’ve got to look to pick up points and if we can keep around the position we were before today then everything’s to play for.”
