Boss asks for fans support
Micky Adams has issued a rallying call to the supporters ahead of Saturday’s game against York City, where Vale will be desperately hoping for a win.
He said: “I think our fans are fair-minded but there is always a minority, and it is a minority, that I don’t think understand if players are going through a crisis of confidence, they are not helping by criticising and booing – that’s not the way to help players.
“I have to put an arm around them and try and protect them and I always with whether they are doing well or they are not and I would think that the fair-minded supporters would understand what I am trying to say.
“We appreciate the support, so get behind the lads and let’s try and get ourselves out of this mess.”
Vale have a handful of injuries ahead of the game and of course Sam Morsy is ruled out as he will serve a two-match suspension after picking up a yellow card at Bristol Rovers in midweek.
The Vale boss explained: “Ashley Vincent is a major concern with us, but luckily there is no fracture. He had a scan on Wednesday and we are concerned about an ankle tendon which was inconclusive on the scan.

“Daniel Jones is continuing with is rehab and he has had a couple of sugar injections and hopefully that will aid his recovery. We haven’t entirely ruled him out for Saturday, but he remained a doubt.
“Darren Purse has got a calf strain and he certainly won’t be involved and the only other one is Sam Johnson who has still got a problem with his thumb and he is ruled out.”
Micky and York boss Nigel Worthington have crossed swords before when the two of them were managing in the top flight and tomorrow’s game will be an interesting one for the two of them.
Micky commented: “He is an experienced campaigner and we were rivals in the Premier League – he was at Norwich and I was at Leicester, so we know each other well.
“I believe that the style of football that York are playing at the moment is slightly different to what is was under Gary Mills, but that will be down to Nigel to decide, with the players he has got at his disposal, the type of football he wants to play.
“He knows all of the divisions and it is a tough game. It is a tough game, but if we were going to Gillingham tomorrow it would be a tough game. Anywhere we were going tomorrow would be a tough game so we have got to be ready for it.
“Their agenda is to stay in the league – ours hopefully is slightly different. Two teams are after different things,, but both are searching for wins.
“As I have said many times before, we won’t be going up there worried about York City, we will go there trying to put all the wrongs and evils of our game together and try to get a win.”
