MORE SIGNINGS EXPECTED

Micky expects to bring in four or five new faces

Micky Adams has said that the signing of Chris Birchall earlier today is not the only business the club will be doing in this transfer window.

He has hinted there may be a further signing on Friday and either way, he expects to bring in four or five players before the transfer window closes.

He said: “In the cold light of day, I think we need additions to the squad and I have had some great conversations with the owners of the football club and we are all in agreement that we will add new faces to the squad.

“It is a bit of a minefield and if that was a day off yesterday then I would rather not have a day off – constant barrage of phone calls from agents,

“I actually went out and met a player yesterday and tried to sell him the dream, so we will add faces to the squad and that is not decrying anything that the current crop of players have done but I do feel we need to freshen up in certain areas.

“Other teams are doing it, Gillingham, and Fleetwood who we played here the other day – they have got massive budgets, bigger budgets than we have got and they are adding to their squads for the final push.

“But I feel that in certain areas we need to freshen it up. People who perhaps don’t know the football club will add a certain freshness to us that will ignite the crowd and give them a lift, but also spark some of our own players into life and give us as coaches something else to work with.

“We have al list of players and I will be sitting down with the staff and Paul Wildes and Norman Smurthwaite, but we are well down the road in terms of signing a couple of players. The fans can rest assured that there will be four or five new faces coming in to the club.”
