Players in double training sessions for a couple of days
Vale boss Micky Adams says despite three defeats in eight days there is no need to panic, though he admits there is a confidence crisis amongst some of his players.
He said: “We just have to keep reminding ourselves about what we are and what we are all about and where we are. There is no panic, we are alright.
“If we had been sitting here after three League defeats my attitude might have been slightly different, but we have lost one League game and that is our fourth of the season and we will keep ploughing on.
“We have not been at it and it is as simple as that. We have to get back out on the training ground and work as hard as we can and as diligently as we can and we have done that.
“It is not a punishment, but we are working double shifts for the first couple of days this week and I don’t think it hurts people to be reminded what we are all about – good habits – and what actually got us to where we were.
“On Saturday we were second best, there’s no doubt about that. I thought we could have done things slightly better and differently.
“Maybe we picked the wrong side, but every time you lose a game of football you are always thinking that anyway.
“Certainly the supporters will always tell you that you have picked the wrong side, sometimes when you have won a game, so you can never win.
“We’ve got a little bit of food for thought. We’ll sit down and lick our wounds and come again.
"At the beginning of the season we had a steady side, we didn’t change it for a number of games but obviously form is a key factor for everything.
"I look at players and some of them are not as confident as they once were and that can be down to a number of factors.
“But what I am looking for is a response on the training ground and my job will be made easier by what the players produce on the training ground and we can hopefully produce a side that is confident.
“At this moment in time it looks like there is a crisis of confidence with a number of players. They won’t admit to that of course, but their performances will dictate that and have dictated that and we will have to pick a side appropriately.”
