Ethan Chislett’s late winner helps table-topping Vale to a 1-0 victory on the road.
The Valiants had the first attempt on goal in the 6th minute when Connor Grant found Ethan Chislett in the edge of the box. Chislett cut inside onto his right foot before whistling a shot over the crossbar.
The hosts had their first shot of the game two minutes later when a short corner eventually found its way to Callum Jones who dragged an effort wide from the right side of the box.
A golden chance fell to the hosts in the 13th minute when Morecambe won possession in the attacking third before a low cross was turned over by Ben Tolitt who was a yard out and had the goal gaping.
The game has started at a pulsating pace. Two minutes later, Vale had another great chance of their own. Chislett and Grant worked it well down the left side which allowed space of the ball to come over, but it was headed over by Jayden Stockley who showed great desire to get his head on the cross.
On the half hour mark Vale thought they had taken the lead, but the referee had other ideas. Ronan Curtis’ deep cross was headed down by Brandon Cover at the back post and then turned home by Ruari Paton. However, the referee had pulled up play for a foul on David Tutundo, committed by Cover.
The second half failed to live up to the frantic start of the first half. Neither side could really work an opening. This was shown in the 64th minute when Ronan Curtis’ deep cross was just out the reach of Ruari Paton who couldn’t connect.
In the 80th minute it was the hosts' turn then to have a goal disallowed. Jamie Stott ghosted in at the back post to turn home a deep cross, but he was adjudged to be offside by the linesman.
This was a huge decision as Vale went up the other end and took the lead. Benicio’s corner from the right was flicked on at the near post by Jayden Stockley and Ethan Chislett ghosted in at the back post to fire Vale into the lead and send the 1,389 travelling Valiants into raptures!
Morecambe came close to levelling instantly when Tom White whistled a strike past the post after a cross was cleared as far as him.
Despite five minutes of additional time, Vale hung on for a crucial three points which gets Vale back on the right track after three winless games and maintains Vale’s position at the top of League Two.
