A look at how our loan players fared over the last month.

  • James Plant scores his first goal for Yeovil Town as the Glovers rise into the National League playoff places.
  • Dan Jones (Gateshead) and Funso Ojo (Shrewsbury Town) continue to make regular starts for their respective clubs.

Port Vale youngster James Plant featured among Yeovil’s top performers for October and has yet to lose since joining the Somerset side, playing a key role in their six-match unbeaten streak.

Last Saturday, the 20-year-old received a reward for his fine form by netting his first goal for the Huish Park club, which proved decisive in a 1-0 victory over Southend United. Plant drove with the ball down the left before cutting in and sending in a cross, which sailed past everyone in the box and into the far corner of the net.

The win helped the Glovers maintain their position in the final playoff spot in the National League table as they prepare to face the team directly below them, Halifax Town, this weekend.

In the same competition, Dan Jones cemented his place in Gateshead’s starting back three after the unit kept four clean sheets in the Valiants’ players’ nine appearances.

The Heed have won two of their last three games, but a 3-0 loss away to Fylde on Saturday saw them lose ground on league leaders York City, falling five points adrift of automatic promotion to the Football League.

Elsewhere, Funso Ojo is another loan player who is now a regular fixture in his respective club’s lineup. The midfielder has started in the majority of Shrewsbury’s games this season, including Salop’s only league win over Crawley Town, and lasted the full 90 minutes in all but two of his appearances.

However, the Shropshire side struggled throughout the past month, losing six consecutive matches—a feat that saw manager Paul Hurst relieved of his duties and replaced by former Valiant, Gareth Ainsworth. His first game in charge will be against high-flying Birmingham next weekend.

Academy graduate Andrew Buah hasn’t featured for Northern Premier League West side Congleton Town this month.
