Match Report | Kidsgrove Athletic 0-1 Port Vale

PVFC x KAFC

The Valiants walked away with a 1-0 win in their second pre-season match in as many days thanks to Ronan Curtis' first-half goal.

The opening chance of the game fell to the Valiants in the 14th minute when Tom Sang’s deflected effort from right fell to Ronan Curtis who headed over the bar.

Two minutes later, Vale had another opportunity when Deklan Wynne’s cross from the right was volleyed over by Jack Shorrock on the turn.

After his goalscoring debut last night, Lorent Tolaj came close to adding to his goal tally for the club when he won the ball of a Kidsgrove defender before shooting wide of the far post.

Three minutes before the break Jack Shorrock had another good opportunity as he cut inside from the left before forcing the Kidsgrove keeper into a good save down low to his left.

A minute later Vale finally took the lead when Ronan Curtis was on hand to smash home a rebound following a good save from Harrison in the Kidsgrove goal.

At half time, Darren Moore changed all of his outfielders with only Connor Ripley keeping his place from the first half.

In the 52nd minute, the hosts had their first attempt of the game when a corner was half-cleared by Vale before it was blazed over by the Kidsgrove forward.

Two minutes later, Vale came close to doubling the lead when Connor Hall latched onto a through ball before poking straight at the keeper who turned it behind for a corner.

On the hour mark, Ben Garrity met Ethan Chislett’s corner with a header that was well over the crossbar.

The hosts came close again in the 68th minute when a deep cross from the right was met with a powerful volley at the back post but Connor Ripley got down well to save at his near post.

Twenty minutes from time Vale thought they’d added a second when Jayden Stockley headed home from close range, but the linesman had his flag up and ruled it out for offside.

Kidsgrove continued to push for a leveller and squandered another good opportunity when a low strike from the edge of the box was well saved again by Ripley.

Vale’s final opportunity of the game came via Mitch Clark as he cut inside and took aim but his low effort was dragged wide of the near post.
