Gaffer Reflects On Notts County Result

Michael Brown remains positive despite his side's 1-0 defeat against Notts County on Saturday. On a day where Vale saw two chances cleared off the line and one hit the post, they could feel slightly hard done by.

With the Valiants dictating the game for large periods and working a number of opportunities, the decisive goal by Lewis Alessandra came against the run of play.

Speaking to the media after the game, Brown highlighted his disappointment having seen his team fall to defeat, but he emphasised that it's still early days.

He said: "It shouldn't have been a defeat. One cross, one chance just in front of Rob (Lainton) with a slight deflection and the scorer has pipped in at the back post.

"We should have scored again, you could see that we created plenty of opportunities and had a lot of the ball. I thought the boys did well in patches today, but obviously we didn't find the net and it's disappointing to concede."

Speaking about the goal that the Valiants conceded, Brown added: "It was against the run of play and I think that was for all to see.

"The chances we had in the game - I don't know how Worrall doesn't score, he was excellent again. We certainly went out to win the game, but it's a disappointing result."

Vale have been unfortunate over recent weeks and they are still looking to add to the three points earned at Crawley Town.

On luck, Brown said: "We can talk about decisions all the time, we have had apologies from officials this week for the goal at Chesterfield and the sending off against Crewe.

"However, away from that, we have to score goals ourselves."
