Gaffer: We 'Out-Played' & 'Out-Fought' Crewe

Port Vale manager Rob Page felt his side out-played and out-fought Crewe Alexandra on the opening day of the season.

The Valiants were far the better side at Gresty Road on Saturday but were forced to settle for just a point in the Sky Bet League One curtain raiser.

Over 2,300 fans travelled to support Page's outfit as Uche Ikpeazu, Sam Foley, Ben Purkiss, Jak Alnwick, Sam Kelly and Anthony Grant all made their full debuts.

Speaking to Valiant PlayerHD after the match, the Vale boss was pleased with the performance but disappointed not to come away with maximum points.

"I thought we played really well," he said. "I think we out-played them at times, I thought we out-fought them at times.

"We knew we were going to come up against a new Crewe team that the remit is to get it down and play.

"But I thought we matched them in all areas and created chances, enough chances to go and win the game. It says a lot when their 'keeper wins man-of-the-match."
