A fan's view of things Port Vale

It will be a surreal atmosphere this Sunday when we play an away game to Coventry City – at Northampton. If we had been playing at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, no doubt we would have taken a couple of thousand supporters for a good day out at a new stadium for all of our fans.

Unfortunately, just like the rest of our division, we have been denied that privilege because of Coventry’s troubles. There will barely be 2,000 there overall, whereas at the Ricoh no doubt it would have been nearer 10,000, a conundrum for the Coventry owners. Coventry seem to be the sort of side that score loads and let loads in, so it could well be a good open game. We are best going at teams so I would expect quite a few goals.

It’s still a novelty playing a team like Coventry, something we haven’t done away from home for nearly 50 years, one of the bonuses we have had through being in League One. Despite the recent bad run it has been great overall, we are still in the top half, which I would have taken at the start of the campaign, and there are still 33 points to play for.
