Vale sacrificed home advantage but progressed to their first final in 4 years with a hard fought 3-2 victory last night.

A free kick on the left was crossed to the far post by Gary O’Neill and Louis Tambini headed the ball into the net despite the ‘keeper getting his hand to it. Newcastle began the second half like a different side and their pressure brought them a goal back in the 55nd minute when Tom Urwin fired the ball home.

Vale’s schoolboy ‘keeper Harry Pickering made some good saves including a great one from a James Askey header as Vale stoutly defended their lead. Newcastle made it 2-2 with a quarter of an hour to go though when Jordan Cole scored with a close range header.

Just as extra time was looming, Vale snatched the winner with six minutes remaining. Good work down the left by Luke Beesley saw the ball fired across the face of goal and Dell turned the ball into the net from close range.
