Not for the first time in recent seasons, or pre-seasons to be more precise, Vale will face Alfreton Town at their North Street ground as the Valiants play their final game before their trip to Cornwall, wher they face Plymouth Parkway on Monday evening.
A word of warning to the Vale - Alfreton attracted publicity in July 2011 after beating a Sheffield Wednesday XI 14–0 in a pre-season friendly!
A repeat of that scoreline is highly unlikely of course, but Alfreton are a decent side and as far as Vale are concerned, with respect to the three friendlies played up to now, it will be a step up in quality.
It is an opportunity for Vale’s new signings to bed in with their new team mates and Micky will start to look at how players slot in together, with the emphasis shifted slightly as regards fitness.
Of course fitness is still a very important factor and the players will be put through their paces next week at HMS Raleigh, where they will use the facilities at the navay base inbetween matches on the Devon tour.
