O'Connor's Wonder Strike

Michael O’Connor scored what was possibly the goal of the season last night against Cardiff City, although he admitted he knows he can kick the ball well, he didn’t think he was that good to score from 41–yards out.

O’Connor explained: “I was going to hit the free-kick, but Dicko took it and passed it to me, I took a touch then thought I’m 40-45 yards out here I might as well have a go.

“I know I can hit a ball although I didn’t think I could hit it that well to get it in the top corner.

“It’s definitely up their with my best goals, I scored one for Rotherham United two years ago from about 35 yards, but I guess this one overtakes it because it’s about 5 yards more.”

O’Connor feels that although it would have been nice to win the game and go on a cup run, the team have to focus on the league.

He continued: “It was disappointing, we were never going to win the cup, but it would have been nice to get a good run especially to get the club some money.

“I thought we did well against a good Championship team that I think will be up there at the end of the season.

“We were always going to concentrate more on the league though, because that is the most important competition.”
