League One preview: Peterborough United

We look at who Vale will face next season

League One Preview:

Our next preview looks at another former Championship side, Peterborough United. The Posh will face Vale after being relegated by a single point last season.

Team: Peterborough United

A final day 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace meant Peterborough dropped back to the third-tier of English Football. They have a history of doing well in League One after being promoted in 2009 as runners-up and as Play-Off winners in 2011.

With Sir Alex Ferguson retiring, will his son Darren raid the Premier League champions for their promising youngsters again next season? Davide Petrucci and Scott Wootton both arrived on loan from Old Trafford.

Players:

Striker George Boyd has left permanently after signing for Hull City following his loan at the KC Stadium. 18-year-old Jonson Clarke-Harris has left to join Oldham Athletic while Semih Aksoy has joined Turkish side Kayseri Erciyesspor.

Peterborough have also transfer-listed Gabby Zakuani after he rejected a new contract.

Manager:

Darren Ferguson may have overseen last season’s relegation but his success at the club has been there for all to see. Ferguson guided the Posh to League Two promotion in 2008 followed by promotion straight from League One to the Championship in 2009 and through the Play-Offs in 2011.

Their chairman, Darragh MacAnthony has stated that Ferguson will not be leaving.

Key Man:

Young striker Dwight Gayle has caused quite a storm since arriving on loan from Dagenham and Redbridge. The 22-year-old scored 13 goals in the Championship last season along with seven in League Two for Dagenham and Redbridge. It will take a large sum to prize him away from London Road, his goals could help them bounce straight back up.

Promotion Odds: 11/4
