World Cup Preview

With the World Cup starting this week, and a Port vale Fantasy Football League officially announced, we have had a look at who are SkyBet’s favourites to win the tournament and have done a quick preview of the top picks.

The Favourites

Brazil 11/4

The host country and 5 times winner of the tournament, Brazil have high expectations on their shoulders especially from there own Country who feel that anything but a win on home soil won’t do.

They have a number of star players, but the squad as a whole is filled with a lot of players plying their trade in Brazil. Which could be seen as a positive in a climate which a lot of the other contenders will find difficult to play in.

They have a strong chance of winning, with the team putting in some great performance in their pre-tournament friendlies. The home support behind them will be a big factor as well.

Star Man: Neymar. The attacking striker who is known for his pace and playmaking skills is seen as the one player in the Brazil squad that can propel the team to glory. The 22-year old will see this as his time to perform not just on the world stage but in front of his compatriots after moving to Barcelona last summer.

Argentina 4/1

As another South American team Argentina will feel at home in Brazil and will also want to get one over there rivals in Brazil by winning the tournament.

The Argentinians have a number of world stars but have never been seen as a threat to the main teams but people are starting to catch on to their threat as all the players get on brilliantly which is always a plus.

Star Man: Lionel Messi, arguably the best player in the world will feel like he has the ability to make a big difference for Argentina.

The Raining Champions

Spain 6/1

The Spanish national team are raining champions but many believe that they will not be able to retain the Jules Rimet due to a fall in form over recent years but they still have a good chance of winning it with a squad of stars and not just in the starting line-up.

Still playing the possession football that seems to have fallen out of favour recently, will Spain be able to play there way to the title with other teams opting for a tougher approach to tactics. Although if Diego Costa is deemed fit they will have a player that can play a more physical game when called for adding an extra dimension to the squad.

Star Man: Andres Iniesta, not known for being flashy off the pitch but on the pitch he has been called ‘a wizard’ by team mate Sergio Ramos. When he plays well everyone around will have a better game as well, due to his unbelievable passing and vision.

The Dark Horse

Belgium 18/1

The Belgium national teams rise to prominence has been fantastic over the past couple of years with a number of young and talented players coming out of the country and storming Europe especially England.

They will definitely be the Dark Horses of the tournament as they could surprise a few people with a team that seem to work together with a confident swagger. However, with a small chance of winning the tournament a semi-final would be a terrific achievement.

Star Man: Romelu Lukaku. The strong striker has carved himself a reputation as a top striker in the Premier League scoring with 33 goals for West Brom and Everton in 2 seasons.
