Wembley Play-Off Joy For Vale Loanee

Port Vale loanee Chris Lines enjoyed play-off success with Bristol Rovers on Sunday as they beat Grimsby Town on penalties to secure promotion back to the Football League at the first attempt.

The 29-year-old completed the full 90 minutes at Wembley as well as 30 minutes of extra time as the Gas and the Mariners fought out a 1-1 draw.

Lenell John-Lewis had put Grimsby ahead inside the first couple of minutes but Ellis Harrison drew Rovers level on around the half-hour mark.

Neither side could produce a winner in normal or extra time meaning their fate was decided by spot kicks.

Lines stepped up first for his hometown club and fired beyond James McKeown.

Jon-Paul Pittman missed crucially for Grimsby while Rovers slotted home all of their penalties to ensure their immediate return to Sky Bet League Two after a one-year absence.

Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Chris on his success on Sunday.
