WEATHER FAILS TO HALT TRAINING

Vale preparing well despite the weather says Mark Grew

With the weather affecting Vale’s training schedule once again, the players were forced to train elsewhere this morning, but Mark Grew says it doesn’t prevent them from preparing properly.

He said: “We sometimes use Newcastle College. Unfortunately the snow had frozen on the surface but they haven’t had much snow at Nantwich and it was perfect for us.

“We have put in a good day’s training today. The one thing we didn’t want to do today was go into the gym or do a spinning class or whatever.

“We wanted to get out on the pitch and they had a good half an hour each way game and then they did some running and some ball work and we are very grateful to Nantwich Town for letting them use their facilities.”

Lee Hughes was one player who wasn’t at Nantwich this morning due to back problems when he trains on Astroturf, but he managed to put in some work in the gym.

Said Grew: “Lee Hughes has done a session in the gym as he can’t train on Astroturf. He had the same problem down at Market Harborough on Friday afternoon where they have a 3G pitch.

“Lee went off with the Physio and there was some fields that he could train on so he did a good session. We sorted it out with our Fitness Coach this morning so he took him away.

“The one thing about Lee is he is fit. He’s 36 years old and you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, it is more important that he is fit for the matches.”
