This morning we received the terribly sad news that Trevor Cheetham had sadly passed away after a long battle with illness.
An extremely popular character around the club, Trevor touched the hearts of many who knew him through his kindness, humour and positive attitude towards anything.
Trevor was a Match Officials Co-ordinator at the Vale for many years, looking after the match officials from start to finish and helping the visiting team upon their arrival to a game.
A story that will never fail to amuse anybody, was the time Trevor thought that former Mansfield Town manager Steve Evans was the clubs coach driver and asked him to move the coach! It's safe to say that Steve Evans wasn't impressed!
Trevor would also help collect the teamsheets off the referees and take them upstairs to Estelle to print them off and get them distributed amongst the press and disabled stand. If there was ever a spelling error on a printed sheet, Trevor would be quick to point it out to Estelle with a cheeky grin on his face!
Matchday at Vale Park could also be considered a family day for Trevor, working alongside his wife Angela, a matchday steward at the ground.
His infectious smile and personality will be missed dearly at Vale Park by all his friends, family and everyone at Port Vale. We as a club are devastated by the loss, and send our thoughts and prayers to the friends and family of Trevor. He was a true gentleman.
Rest in peace, Trevor.
