Three goals in two games the perfect start for striker
Striker Gavin Tomlin netted his second and third goals of the season against Newcastle Town on Sunday afternoon and says he is pleased by the start to the pre-season.
He said after the game: “It’s good to get two wins, it’s good for the team’s confidence, but more importantly it’s all about getting a run-out and making sure everybody is injury free and ready to start the season.
“The conditions made it difficult, it was really hot and we had to make sure that we kept the ball, and I felt we did that quite well.
“Chris Lines came in and he has got quite a good range of passing and that is going to help us a lot and he is a good addition to the squad.”
Tomlin’s second goals of the game had more than a bit of luck about it, but the striker said that he was hoping for a repeat throughout the coming months.
He joked “My second goal was a bit fortunate because it was meant as a cross, but I will take twenty-five of those during the season.
“But it is good to get goals and hopefully I can save the majority of them for the new season.”
The players today ‘jetted’ off to Ireland where they will continue to train hard to improve their fitness and will play in two games whilst they are over there.
The trip will also serve as a bonding session, which should help the new additions to the squad to ‘bed in’ and get to know everybody.
Tomlin added: “The gaffer will put us through our paces, but that’s what pre-season is all about. You can already see that the players are quite fit for this stage o the pre-season.
“We now have a week over in Ireland and it’s a great opportunity to get to know the boys even better. We will be living in each others' pockets and will learn a lot about each other.”
