DIRECTIONS:
Take M6N to J25 and follow A49 to Wigan for two and half miles. You come to a large round about where you continue straight but keep in the left hand lane. Almost immediately, at the lights take the left hand filter by the Asda into Robin Park Lane. Just past the Red Robin Pub turn right into Anjou Boulevard which leads to the ground.
WHERE TO PARK
There are a number of car parks at the stadium for away fans (£5) but it can take a while to get away. Do not park on the retail park as it is restricted to 2 hours and can lead to £50 parking longer.
THE STADIUM
Opened in 1999 the DW is a smart, well planned ground, with only the open corners being a minus. All four stands are single tiered and have room for wheel chairs on designated platforms at each end of the stand reached by lifts in the concourse. The seating is quite steep which gives a good view of the ground. The West Stand is the main stand housing the executive boxes and corporate areas. The electronic score board is along the east stand. The ground is shared with the Wigan Warriors Rugby League club. .Since the Vale’s last visit a retail development has sprung up around the ground, including Argo, Matalan, Wickes.
WHERE THE VALIANTS WILL BE SEATED
Up to 4,000 Vale fans can be housed in the North Stand, giving a good clear view of the pitch.
FOOD
They serve very reasonably priced Holland pies and Herta hot dogs. Behind the away end are a number of eating places including Franky and Bennys, Pizza Hut and a fish and chip shop called Sharpy’s. The concourse, although quite spacious, can get cramped if there is a large following.
DRINK
There is an away fans’ bar called The Marquee at the stadium. It has a capacity of 500 serving a range of beers, soft drinks, wines and traditional match day food. as well as tea and coffee. There are large screens showing live matches. Otherwise the Red Robin a few minutes walk away is open to away fans. On the concourse draught Worthington and Carlings is available.
