New partnership makes education the goal!

Staffordshire University have teamed up with Port Vale FC to inspire fans and the wider community about the education opportunities on their doorstep.
The innovative partnership, which effectively sees Staffordshire University become the Club’s education and learning partner, was launched last night ahead of the League 1 clash between Vale and Preston North End.
Staffordshire University Vice Chancellor Professor Michael Gunn said: “We are actively looking to increase our engagement with local communities and feel that by working with Port Vale FC at grass roots level, we increase our chances of doing so in a way that makes higher education and University a realistic and achievable goal.”
“The University is also keen that the partnership brings benefits for our students and our Faculties, including Business, Education, and Law, are looking forward to working with the Club to develop exciting new placement and project opportunities.”
Port Vale FC and Staffordshire University will be building on their existing links with schools in the north of the City to organise a range of exciting activities designed to raise aspirations and awareness about the diverse courses on offer.
Port Vale Chairman Norman Smurthwaite: “Education is important to the Club and we’re intent on encouraging our development squad, the Academy and our first team to think about a life after football , which can be a relatively short-lived career.”
“As a football club which relies for support on the local community, we have a responsibility to inspire and motivate them and we’re excited to be joining with Staffordshire University to achieve this.”
Another exciting link-up will give Port Vale FC access to the wide range of professional sports science expertise and specialist laboratory facilities which are housed at the University.
Head of School of Psychology, Sport and Exercise, Dr Peter Jones said: “We already offer sport science support to Premier League and national elite sports teams and we look forward to working with Port Vale and their Academy to improve aspects of their game and performance.”
