Striker doesn't mind who he is paired up with

Striker Tom Pope has not had a settled trike partner in recent games and has had to adapt to the way each one of them plays, but it isn’t something he has a problem with at all.

After a barren spell for the strikers in recent games, he believes the chances will come again and hopefully he and whoever is up front alongside him will get goal scoring opportunities.

He said: “We know each other’s strengths. You might play only one or two games with players but you still know what their strengths are and what they are liable to do.

“But in the last couple of games the delivery hasn’t been that good, they put some great balls in against Colchester and we were getting forward and whipping balls in and it was the best we have played for a while.

“Against Shrewsbury I came off injured, but we didn’t create much at all for ninety minutes, and then against Bradford the other night, it is always a tough place to go.

“You know you are going to be doing a lot of defending because every time they get the ball within kicking range of the box they are lumping balls up to Hanson.

“We defended well, two young lads against a big bloke like Hanson and the runners off him, we kept it tight and kept I solid, but at the other end we still had two or three decent chances we maybe could have put away.

“We probably had the best chances in the game really but we missed them and they have nicked on in injury time.

“You can build on partnerships with certain players, but the gaffer, with the pitches as heavy as they are, he is chopping and changing it at the minute and trying to get a decent balance to the side.

“Hopefully on Saturday against Crewe, whatever team he picks, we can look solid defensively and create some chances at the other end as well.”
