Port Vale boss Rob Page was disappointed with his side’s loss to Walsall but was ultimately delighted to have ended the season 12th in Sky Bet League One.
Despite suffering a heavy defeat on the final day, the Valiants finished in the top-half following a solid first full season under the stewardship of the Welshman.
Speaking to Valiant PlayerHD following the match, the manager reflected on the campaign as a whole.
“I am over the moon with 12th,” he said. “If someone would have said to me on the 1st July last summer that we’ll finish in the top half with the budget cuts we had, losing players that we wanted to retain and the business we had to do to bring players in is credit to the lads.
“They deserve a lot of credit in there and that’s why I’m more disappointed with them today because, rightly so the supporters will go away disappointed, it’s 5-0, it’s at home, it was our last game of the season.
“Don’t judge them on that, judge them on what they’ve given over the course of the whole season.”
