Vale bring in young defender on a month's loan

Micky Adams has this morning added 19-year-old defender Jack Grimmer to the squad on a month’s loan from Premier League outfit Fulham.

Grimmer made his debut for Aberdeen in April 2010, becoming the youngest ever Aberdeen player when he came on as a substitute against Rangers, aged 16 years, 2 months and 13 days in January 2012

A Scotland Youth international, he joined Fulham for a £200,000 fee from Aberdeen in the summer of 2012 but has not yet featured in the Cottager’s first team.

He has shown his versatility for Fulham’s under 21s when playing at right back and also in midfield.

Speaking to the official website, Jack said: “I first new about the proposed move on Monday morning and things were being discussed while I was training.

“Once training was over a made sure I knew where I would be staying and packed my things and made my way here – it was all a bit of a rush really.

“I have trained with the squad this morning and as soon as I walked into the dressing room I was made to feel welcome, and the training has been enjoyable.

“I think I can bring a competitive edge into the team. I have been brought up to be a winner. The team are already in eight place in the league and I would like to feel I can contribute to more success.”

Micky Adams said: “he can help bring competition for places for a start. He can play at centre half or at right back and we have been looking to strengthen in that area for a while.

“He is a player who we have watched on numerous occasions for Fulham reserves and he is well thought of down there, in and around their first team squad. We are delighted to have him on board.

“We have got no doubts about his ability, I think that he can only get better and we are helping him to develop his career and we hope he does well, but we have a lot of experienced defenders making mistakes.”

Jack will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s game against League One leaders Brentford, as will Joe Davis, who has returned from a loan spell with Luton Town.
