Morris signs first professional contract
Young left-back Tom Morris has realised a dream after the 18-year-old signed his first professional contract with Port Vale.
The former youth team player was ecstatic with being rewarded with his first one-year professional contract.
Morris said: “I’m delighted, it’s every kids dream, it’s my dream. It has been my dream since I first started school.
“From watching TV and watching professional footballers, it has been a dream.”
The defender who can play either at left-back or centre-back talked of his progression through the youth system to first-team and his families delight.
“My family is delighted, I signed at the beginning of Under 15s and it has given me the chance to progress and then I got offered my scholarship and progressed through the youth team and then finally I have been offered my professional contract,” said Morris.
With Daniel Jones seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order for the left-back spot, Morris will be doing all he can next season to learn and develop as a forward-thinking left-back.
He said: “Breaking into the first team is going to be very difficult because of the players that are in front of me.
“I mean Daniel Jones has just signed a new deal and he is a very good player so it is going to be tough, but hopefully I can learn a few things from him.
“I am really looking forward to the challenge.”
