League Two Opponents - Morecambe

League Two Opponents - Morecambe

Who Are They?

Morecambe Football Club is based in Morecambe, Lancashire, and play at the Globe Arena. The club was founded in 1920 and they are nicknamed “the Shrimps”.

They have been playing their football in the football league ever since their promotion from the Conference National in 2007. They also have Lancashire Combination, FA Trophy, Conference League Cup, Northern Premier League President’s Cup, Lancashire Senior Cup, Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy and Lancashire Combination Cup wins amongst their winners’ medals.

How Did They Perform Last Year?

Morecambe finished the 2016/17 campaign with a comfortable five-point cushion between themselves and relegation in 18th place. Under the supervision of Jim Bentley and the full backing of the chairman after signing an extension in 2015, the Shrimps have a solid foundation to push on from.

Our Last Meeting

The last meeting between the two teams came in Port Vale’s League Two promotion season in 2012/13. Morecambe visited Burslem after crashing to a 1-3 defeat at home to the Valiants earlier in the season.

Lewis Alessandra opened the scoring in the 63rd minutes, which was enough to see the away side claim all three points.

How To Get There?

The 1 hour and 39 minute journey to the Globe Arena will take you on to the M6 via the A500, where you will follow signs for Preston. You will stay on the M6 for 78 miles before you take the A683 exit towards Lancaster, and after a succession of roundabouts you will arrive at the Globe Arena.

By Train

From Stoke-on-Trent station, there will be two changes at Manchester Piccadilly and Lancaster before arriving to Morecambe. The ground is then a 20-minute walk from the station.

Odds On Promotion

After last seasons 18th placed finish, Morecambe are least favourites to win the league at odds of 150/1, and 25/1 to win promotion.
