Money Raised For Two Local Hospitals

Back in January Port Vale’s players and staff helped to raise the profile of National Obesity Awareness Week as Cambridge Weight Plan visited the club with a Seca Medical Body Composition Scanner.

Independent Cambridge Weight Plan Consultants Dean Sidley, Emma Bryan and Jeff Dean spent the afternoon at Vale Park as part of a road show taking place to raise awareness of the dangers of obesity and how to lead a healthier life.

Several Players and coaching staff, as well as club chairman Norman Smurthwaite, took part with a view to helping the cause.

The Seca Medical Body Composition Scanner used is one of only a few in the entire country and takes a number of readings from the body, including body mass index, muscle/fat mass and skeletal muscle mass.

The machine visited a number of locations across the area including Stone, Hanley, Newcastle, Crewe and Nantwich, giving members of the public the chance to get a scan free whilst raising funds for two local Hospitals; The Royal Stoke University Hospital cardiology Unit and Layton Hospitals MRI Scanner appeal.

Over the two days a fantastic combined total of £639.20 was raised, £402.57 for The Royal Stoke Hospital and £237.63 for Leighton Hospital, from the generosity of the people of Staffordshire and Cheshire.

Prior to the Valiants’ pre-season clash with Getafe, Dean Sidley, along with his son and nephew, and Lucy Miller revisited the club to celebrate the amazing sum raised with manager Rob Page.

Speaking about the visit to Vale Park, Dean Sidley of Brampton Weight Loss Centre, based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, said: “Vale have been very generous throughout, they donated a signed shirt for our raffle, which was hard to give away being a Vale fan myself, it was brilliant back in January scanning the players, with some pretty impressive results recorded.

“Today has earnt me a lot of Dad and uncle points, the boys have been in awe and have loved every minute of the visit with the players, manager and club staff showing why Vale is a great family club.

“As Independent Cambridge Consultants covering Staffordshire and Cheshire, as a collective we are just trying to give back and support the local area and that’s why we did the road show and offered the scanner for free at different locations throughout the area.

“With Port Vale's support the event was a brilliant success, and hopefully we have helped raise much needed awareness of the obesity crisis facing the Country."
