Micky Adams Delighted with the Win

Port Vale carried on their fine goal scoring form into today’s 3-1 win against promotion favourites, Doncaster Rovers, after Tuesday nights 6-2 win over Hartlepool United

Vale manager, Micky Adams, was delighted with not just the score, but also his team’s performance to go with it.

Micky said: “That’s as good a performance, as we’ve produced while I’ve been manager. Looking at the football we played, the opportunities we made and the defending not only as a back five, but as a whole team, we were excellent.

“We conceded a goal from a deflection and it went over the top of Sam Johnson, but except for that, I think it was a perfect performance.

“You have to remember as well that we were playing a good side. Doncaster were pre-season favourites, so it was never going to be easy and we were playing against a Paul Dickov side, so we knew they’d come out to try and upset the second half.

“I’m disappointed that we couldn’t add to the tally of goals we got in the first half but generally we were very pleased.”

Vale’s record of nine goals in two matches is even more impressive to say that the Valiants only have two out and out strikers on their books. Adams believes it’s down to the great partnership between Tom Pope and Ben Williamson.

He explained: “It shows we have some good options in our strikeforce. I think as combinations go it’s a good one.

“All-in-all, I think the effort and commitment from the boys today was absolutely spot on.”
