Vale went close early in the second half when a free kick by O’Neill was flicked on to the top of the bar by a defender. A flurry of Vale corners came to no avail but then a mazy run down the left by Wilson Carvalho caused problems before being cleared.
Substitute Dan Turner hit a shot from the edge of the box that was saved and then a long ball to Hugill was only just intercepted by Chris Gemmell in the Rushall goal. Lewis Bergin hooked a shot over the bar before Vale pulled a goal back with seven minutes remaining.
The impressive Carvalho thundered a shot against the post and Ryan Lloyd made no mistake from the rebound. Bergin headed an O’Neill free kick wide and Hugill flashed a shot past the post as Vale pressed for an equaliser. It wasn’t to be though as Rushall took the trophy for the first time since 2006.
