Competition: Sky Bet League Two
Fixture: Mansfield Town vs Port Vale
Date: Saturday 21st April 2018-04-20
Kick-off: 3pm
Venue: Field Mill
Preview
Port Vale could secure safety this weekend if they overcome play-off chasing Mansfield Town at Field Mill.
Neil Aspin’s men will head into the game off the back of last week’s impressive 1-0 victory over Lincoln City which surely ensured safety for next season’s Sky Bet League Two campaign.
With relegation still mathematically possible, the gaffer will hope to have everyone in order to ensure that The Valiants remain in League Two next season.
The Opposition
Mansfield Town have found themselves in and around the play-off positions for majority of the 2017/18 campaign. After being announced as favourites for the league title at the start of the season, The Stags’ supporters will be hopeful of a successful campaign in three games time.
Their derby-day victory over Chesterfield last weekend saw delight upon the faces in Mansfield. They currently sit 8th in League Two, just one point away from the play-off spot with new manager, David Flitcroft, hoping to take them one step further.
They pose an attacking threat so far, with the likes of Danny Rose and Kane Hemmings leading the line allowing a goal difference of +14 this season.
Talk
Neil Aspin: “Whether they have a change or manager, or no change. I know they have beaten their local rivals in a derby and it’s given them a kickstart. They are playing teams lower than them in the table so they will be after nine points to get themselves into the play-offs.”
David Flitcroft: “Everyone is playing for something in this league. There's a lot challenging to get into the play-offs, and the security of staying in the league [for Vale] is not done and dusted yet, so there's a lot to play for."
Team News
The Valiants could welcome back Danny Pugh after he returns from his three match suspension. Cristian Montano is the only player who will play no part in the game tomorrow, with Rob Lainton and Ryan Boot getting there. Kjell Knops is making good progress off the field but will still not be ready.
Mansfield will be without Hayden White and Ricky Miller who continue to make their comeback following their recent injuries. David Mirfin also looks likely to miss out.
