Lines hails team spirit

Midfielder compares it with Sheff Wednesday's promotion side

Five wins in Vale’s last six games certainly has the fans talking, and maybe thinking of what could be, but the players are not looking too far ahead of things.

They know they have to concentrate on giving everything in each and every game they play and tonight’s encounter with Preston North End will be no different.

Midfielder Chris Lines says: “It is important to keep this run going. We are right in the mix at the moment and obviously we don’t want to get carried away.

“But I have played in this league for six or seven seasons and we have got a good enough team to be where we are in the league.

“We have got a good enough team to be where we are, we are there for a reason. The season is well underway and we have got a deserved amount of points.

“We have shown that we can compete against the better teams as well and it has been a good four or five games for us.

"In terms of the bunch of lads I have played with, this is probably the closest the players have been and it is probably the most I have enjoyed myself as in being involved with the boys.

“Every day in training is a good laugh and that is important. The season I got promoted with Sheffield Wednesday it was similar.

“When you are winning games it helps, but the team spirit was good and we went into games knowing we were going to win.”

A win against Preston North End this evening could see Vale in the top six – that though has to be earned and Lines is under no illusions about what has to be done for that to happen.

He said: “We have ha d a good run so the longer you can keep it going the better. You can win two or three games in this league and you can start shooting up the table and that has happened in the last month.

bit of a blip against Swindon, but we are not going to win every game, we are not Wolves or Leyton Orient, we are Port Vale and we know that we have work and be at one hundred per-cent every game to win. “We had

“I think we have realised that and that is why we are winning games. Every game the boys are getting sevens, eights or nines out of tens and if we keep that up every week we will win games.

“We have got the quality, we have tightened things up at the back and going forward we are always going to get goals.”
