Bees previewed

League One Preview:

Next on our preview of League One clubs is Brentford. The Bees will be looking to recover from the heartache of losing the Play-Off final against Yeovil at Wembley in May.

Team: Brentford

The nearly-side from Griffin Park will be out to secure promotion to the Championship after narrowly missing out through the Play-Offs in May.

They finished five points adrift of Bournemouth who sealed the second automatic-promotion spot.

Next season they will start as one of the favourites for promotion and will be a tough task for Vale.

Players:

A lot of Brentford’s promotion hopes will sit with Clayton Donaldson. The striker bagged 24 goals in all competitions last season, with 20 coming in League One.

Brentford have invested in youth so far during the close season with the arrivals of 19-year-old Watford goalkeeper Jack Bonham and 20-year-old Everton left-back Jake Bidwell who had two previous loan spells at Griffin Park.

It has also been widely reported that Swindon Town captain Alan McCormack will join Brentford after failing to agree terms with the Wiltshire club.

Manager: Uwe Rosler

Former East-Germany international Uwe Rosler took over a manager in 2011 and has impressed ever since. In his first season he guided the club to a ninth place finish, their highest for six years. Last season’s third place finish showed he is taking the club in the right direction.

Key Man: Clayton Donaldson

A key part of Brentford’s success was Donaldson’s goals, the former Crewe Alexandra striker scored 24 goals in all competitions last season and the Bees will be hoping for more of the same in the coming campaign.
