The Valiants will be on their travels for the first time this season on Saturday as Neil Aspin’s men make the journey south to face Colchester United, but what happened the last time the two teams met?
David Worrall put in a man-of-the-match performance to ensure Vale earned a point on home soil back in January, with his goals twice cancelling out strikes from the U’s.
Courtney Senior had given Colchester an early lead before Worrall equalised, but Drey Wright found the net in first-half stoppage time to pull the visitors back in front.
Despite threatening in the second 45 minutes, the Valiants left it late to make it 2-2 as Worrall diverted Luke Hannant’s effort into the back of the net two minutes from time.
The last clash at the Jobserve Community Stadium also ended as a stalemate back in December 2017, with Marcus Harness heading home Vale’s goal after Sammie Szmodics had given the Essex-based side the lead.
Following last weekend’s opening day triumph over Cambridge United, Aspin and his players will be hoping to continue that fine start with another three points in Sky Bet League Two.
