Port Vale head to the Abbey Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they take on Cambridge United in the final game of the 2017/18 campaign, but what happened when the sides met back in December?

It was Neil Aspin's men that came out with all three points on that afternoon, with Cristian Montano bagging a brace either side of half-time to reward the volunteers who had cleared the pitch of snow prior to kick-off.

The game got off to a lively start as both teams created chances, but it was Vale who had the better of them with Tom Pope, Ben Whitfield, David Worrall and Montano all going close.

As the first 45 minutes drew to an end, the deadlock was broken folliowing some neat build-up involving Worrall and Whitfield. The ball eventually fell to Montano, and he stroked a finish into the far corner beyond the reaches of David Forde.

It only took two minutes following the restart for the Valiants to double the advantage, and it was Montano on hand again to apply the finish. A Worrall corner was flicked into a dangerous area by Nathan Smith, and the Colombian poked the ball home from close range.

Vale then continued to threaten for the remainder of the game, but the U's did enjoy a spell of possession themselves. They were unable to trouble Ryan Boot, however, and they were reduced to 10 men late on as Uche Ikpeazu was shown a second yellow.

The last time Vale travelled to Cambridge was back in February 2002, and a Stephen McPhee strike ensured it was the Valiants who would be taking all of the points back to Burslem on that occasion too.
