The last time Port Vale and Barnet met came in Vale’s 1-0 league win earlier on in the Sky Bet League Two campaign.
It was Tom Pope’s 80th minute penalty that secured all three points for Neil Aspin’s men who then climbed to 19th in the league table.
The Valiants played well throughout the game and should have been leading on the 12th minute as David Worrall found Pope in space as ‘keeper James Stephens produced a fine save to keep the score level.
Anton Forrester then nearly saw his 57th minute chance saved once again by Stephens with Vale still drawing on a chilly November afternoon.
James Gibbons was finally brought down in the box as Pope put Vale ahead.
It wasn’t the most entertaining encounter for both sides of the season, but previous years have shown otherwise. Vale’s first ever league meeting with The Bees came in 1993 where Vale won 6-0. Two hat-tricks from Bernie Slaven and Martin Foyle secured the victory in Division 2.
