Mark Grew insists Vale can win at Orient

Vale Assistant Manager Mark Grew insists a Vale victory against Leyton Orient on Saturday afternoon cannot be ruled out, though he knows the lads can expect a tough match against an in-form side.

He said: “Everybody is expecting them to turn us over, but whoever we play we are going to go with the same attitude and we will be trying to win a game of football. Sooner or later Orient are going to lose and hopefully it will be on Saturday.

“I didn’t think they would have the start they have had, but I always thought they would be in the top seven at the end of the season.

“We are going to go there full of confidence. They haven’t played for a couple of weeks so we might catch them on the hop and we are looking forward to it.

Orient have had the perfect start in the league, winning five games out of five, with a squad that has a mixture of youth and experience.

Grew continued: “Russell Slade is no mug by any means and I have always rated him as a really good manager. I have known him for some time now.

“I think that’s nice when Russell has got that little bit of experience in there to help the lads. Things will get tough for them and they will need those sort of players and that temperament in the dressing room to pull them through.

“They are riding high at the minute but we all know that the bubble will burst sooner or later.

The trip to Brisbane Road is one that Vale midfielder Anthony Griffith is looking forward to as a former Leyton Orient player, but Grew has no worries about how he will cope.

He said: “It’s always nice to go back to one of your old clubs, but he won’t think he has got to prove anything. In fact they will know what Griff is like and it might frighten the life out of two or three of them.”
