Vale go to Oldham in positive mood
Vale coach Rob Page is expecting yet another hard game on Saturday when Vale take on Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park, but believes the lads can come away with a positive result if they repeat the things they did well against Bradford City last weekend.
He said: “It will be a tough game, they have proved they can score goals so we are expecting nothing other than a tough game, not only because it is Oldham, I know Lee personally and he will have them organised and he will have them up for it.
“It is the next level up so we have got to be at our best week in week out, so whatever preparation we do through the week has to be with the mind that they are at their best and they are ready for a battle on Saturday.”
Last season’s away form played a huge part in the club eventually securing promotion, so Saturday’s trip to Oldham is a big one, given that we have already been beaten on the road.
“We held our hands up to the Colchester defeat and we drew a line under it and get on with the next one and I think we proved we were back to our best against Bradford.
“I thought the boys were fantastic and Bradford couldn’t cope with our tempo. Their staff on the side were shouting for them to slow the game down because they couldn’t cope with us.
we have got a good recipe this season. “We proved we could do both sides of it, we could do the horrible nasty job first and grind teams down, and we have got the quality in the team this season that can play and outplay teams as well -
“But to do that everybody has to be bang on it this year because if you make a mistake at this level you get punished for it.
“Momentum is key in football and consistency and getting back to back wins will definitely help. We will go into the game positive, but we are also respectful of the fact that Oldham are a very good team and we will have our work cut out to get something there.
“We don’t take anything for granted, we need to be at our very best to get something from the game on Saturday and that is the message we are putting out to the lads.
“We are in for a tough game, but if we play like we did on Saturday, in my opinion, and do the horrible jobs first like we did against Bradford, then we stand a good chance.”
